Important information to remember when traveling with your pet: The airline ticket counter personnel have the final decision on whether to accept a pet in the cargo hold on any flight. Make sure your dog is cleared on the flight when you book your ticket and that your record is properly documented. This will help the airport check-in process go smoothly. Large (400 series) and extra-large kennels (500 series) will not fit on all aircraft. Prepaid Dog tickets, issued by our agency, will help to ensure that your dog is accepted on the flight. A current Health Certificate issued by a licensed Veterinarian is required for each dog. This certificate must be dated within 10 days of your travel dates. Two water dishes that are securely hooked to the front of the kennel are required for all dogs traveling in the cargo hold. The dog must be able to turn around, sit and stand up comfortably in the kennel. Some Helpful Hints:To keep your dog cool, consider purchasing a "dog waterbed" from one of the many vendors. This bed can be filled with ice prior to departure for the airport. The bed can be used as a crate pillow for short-coated dogs or can be put under a crate rack for dogs with long coats. The plastic water dishes or coop cups can be filled with water and frozen the night before departure. When secured to the crate door, these cups should stay frozen for 2-3 hours. There are several good battery powered fans on the market. Many have hooks to securely fasten them to the crate door. With the required amount of D cell batteries, these fans can run 4-6 hours. |
